The Ugly Wickerwood - Chapter 22

Myrhna's mother, Anna Eastwall, surprised them all by marrying her friend, Jonas. The newly wed elderly couple resides the master bedroom, and over the past years Anna acted as if she owned Albert's house.

- It certainly feels like ugly business, Albert said. He and Myrhna was sitting in the livingroom to talk. Kids were in bed, and Anna and Jonas were in their room.
- She doesn't mean to be ugly, Myrhna said.
- Argh, of course not, I am the ugly one, Albert shrugged. - And you know, our kids are perfectly ugly, too!

Yes, youngest child Edna grew up and is now about to start school!

Her looks does indeed qualify for some ugliness contest. Seems like she got her hair and nose from Albert, and mouth and eyebrow color from Myrhna. And she might not be the happiest child around...

Next day the elderly couple were having breakfast, while Myrhna was preparing lunch in the kitchen.

- They expect us to paint the house, dear, Anna said.
- Yes, I heard. I don't find that weired at all. After all it's your house.
Anna was quiet. She had filled in some forms few days ago, giving up false information to the desk officer. Maybe nobody would ever notice, maybe they would.
- Don't you think we are too old for climbing ladders?, she asked.

- Not really, Jonas smiled. He acted a little differently today. - I'm sure we can do it, we will only need a little longer to get the job done.

Albert was to thrilled playing with Edna. He had forgotten to buy the house paint, so the project was a few days delayed.

- Hu ha hu ha, Edna is ugly as can be!, he chanted.
- Oh, what?
- Ugly you, ugly me!
Edna felt very confused. Her own dad was scaring her. Ugly, she?

She started to cry.

- So he made fun of me and called me silly names, she complained to her older brother Hui.
- Relax siss, he is just crazy. Our crazy dad.
- But I don't wanna be ugly!
- But you are!

In the room was also Jonas, making a phone call.

- Yes, kitchen sink is broken. You should get her immediately. I long to see you!

It was the same repair woman who visited them earlier.
- So, sink is broken, but it's too good... to see you!
- Aw, the time will soon be here! The wait is nearly over!

Then Jonas kissed the repair woman, and neither of them noticed little Edna walking into the kitchen.
