Hope Terra is quite tiny, and the little house takes up most of the area already. In addition they can grow some food, and there is a small field where they gather for meetings occasionally, called Court Garden. And then there are two small beaches. That's all.
One night the second oldest of the boys, Davitor, tells Hope that he has fallen in love with a mermaid!
All four of Hope's children will need to marry someone from the Mer People, that's actually part of the plan constructed by Hope's late father, Aquatore very long ago.
Just the way Hope fell in love with the Sailor, and walked onto firm land. It worked again when Clammensa left the ocean to live with Aquid. Will it work just as well for Davitor?
Davitor grew up and walks down to the southern beach. He calls for Ocira Tushell, and she comes to join him.
But then what? She can't walk! She tries but can not control her body as there are no proper feet! And then she starts making weird noises, sticks her tongue out to catch some raindrops. And then she returns to the ocean!
Davitor realizes that it didn't work!
He tells Hope, and she gets very upset to hear about her son's experience. Then she asks him Ocira's age, and he must admit that she still looked like a teen. Maybe it was too early?
Yes it was! A few weeks later Ocira aims for Hope Terra again...
And this time she manages to grow her leg! They embrace, and a new couple is ready to get married!
Davitor marries to Ocira Tushell. Because Ocira has a better status, they keep her name. She comes with a ring, and during the wedding, Hope thinks it looks blue, but what powers does it provide? Ocira will not wear that ring again until she becomes elderly, unless she passes it on to a heir before that.
Davitor and Ocira decides to move out to the southern rock. With help from Aquid, Shimmerita and Hope, they build a good house from drifting pieces of wood. Ocira's folks can't help on land, but they help by bringing stuff that can be used.
Ocia and Davitor are very happy, although Davitor will miss Hope Terra.
Hope worries about the winter storms. This rock is much smaller than Hope Terra. Tall waves might damage the house. But she says nothing.
It's very lonely to live on Hope Terra. Hope has no contact with the Mer People, and the only way she can get news, is to talk with her two daughters-in-law, Clammensa and Ocira. Clammensa can tell that the black poison is spreading still, that hardly any of the Mersea group is able to reproduce, and the group counts fewer members than ever!
But there are still a few left, and they often spy on Hope's family. They know that their kids should attemp to marry Hope's children, it might be the only way to pass the group on!
One night Hope and Aquid stands outside watching the ocean. Hope tells him about her father Aquatore's secret Kelp garden. Hope never saw it, and she has no idea where to look for it.
She thinks it will be valuable to Aquid, Davitor and Shimmerita, and now even to Clammensa and Ocira. They all need Kelp, and because of the polution, it gets harder to find good harvests down there.
Hope wants them to go searching for the hidden Kelp farm. It's too dangerous for Animere, she doesn't eat kelp anyway, but the others should go searching soon. East or west, probably west?
A week laterHope sits down with the girls for a talk. They are both just teens, but will soon grow up like their brothers. Are they seeing any young mermen?
Shimmerita looks down, she is the youngest. She says she is in no hurry.
Animere, will be next. She is the one with human legs. Will any merman care for her? Of course! Hope tells her the story about how she fell in love with a Sailor long ago, their father. He had human legs, too, and Animere should not worry.
