This morning Ochana decided to send her test book to a publisher, and while checking the mailbox he was surprised to find some bills in there! They had not received bills in years, she actually thought they would never again get a bill.
- Ouch, §2.050! she screamed, as she realized that they would need to sell off some apples to meet that sum! Edith would get a tough start to her adult life, and being in charge of the household.
- It was expected, wasn't it? Pivian asked. - After all they are older than us.
- Sure, Paula replied. - But in a couple years we'll grow up too, and we will probably need to stay here while Edith gets tons of babies! I'm not sure I can deal with that!
- Well, as far as I know she doesn't even have a boyfriend yet.
- Aw, I think she is dating the rich Landgraab guy from Oasis Springs.
Right outside the kitchen back door, Miranda was busy tidying up the herbs garden.
- Oh, what a stinky mess! How could this happen? And look over there, a strange stinking plant that I never saw before! I gotta tell Alan about it!
Alan Mugger at Muggerfield hood was Miranda's boyfriend. He ran Mugger Farm, and they were both more than averagely into plants. Miranda headed over to spend a couple hours together.
Then Alan surprised her. He asked her to move in with him! Now that Miranda's sister Edith got Glee Abode, Miranda would need to move out eventually.
- How about running this farm together? he asked.
- And, well, if you would do me the honour... and marry me!
So, Miranda and Alan got engaged! A bit quirky trying to get romantic while Alan's younger sister Janet insisted on joining in or their conversation...
- Can't you hand her some money and tell her to go to watch a movie or something? Miranda whispered.
- No, can't afford that. Besides, Janet is included here at Mugger Farm.
Back at Glee Abode, Edith was slowly getting used to the thought of being head of this house.
- Are you okay, Edith? Chad asked, finding her in the living room.
- Sure dad, I was just thinking about calling everyone in for a house meeting. I mean, I'm the new head, so there ought to be some new rules around here.
- Like what?
- Like moving upstairs, for instance!
- We can't afford that just because you had a birthday?
- Oh, Edith said and pulled out her cellphone. - I better sign up for some adult job!
- Good!
- Entertainment needs me, she giggled. - I can't wait to work professionally!
Then Ochana called for Edith.
It was time to introduce Edith to the rules.
- Being the Main Heir isn't just about getting this house, Ochana started. - There are certain rules included!
- Oh? Why didn't anyone tell me earlier? What kind of rules?
- Main Heir will also take over a sort of Secret Mission. That won't happen today, but probably in a few weeks. Anyway, holding the mission means that you must follow certain rules that can be found in the Rules and Directions. You will get those rules later on.
Ochana stopped talking, she hesitated to say what she got to say next.
- One rule might affect you already, so I don't think it can wait. You will need to marry someone from this hood! Someone who belongs to one of the households here at Willow Foeld.
- What? You must be joking! That leaves me with only two choices, Jamiels Grossing or Adrian Hikes! What kind of forced marriage would that be?
- I'm sorry, Edith, but unless you follow the rules, your sister Miranda will take over this house and advance to Main Heir.
- No, of course she will not! I'll give it a thought!
Ochana felt pretty bad about the marriage thing. Would anyone have noticed if she had adjusted those rules a little? Well, it was too late, an at least Edith had more than just one guy to choose from.
Ochana spent some hours writing on her Gloomville Diraies book. Then the computer crashed, and although she had just saved the document, there was no way to access her manuscript! What a tragedy, she had almost completed it all! If she had no book, she could not hand over the Secret Mission to Edith!
She had to see the nerdy Ella Hikes again, sister of Adrian Hikes. She was a computer tech, and could hopefully help.
A little later Miranda returned from Mugger Farm. Before she could tell that she was engaged, Ochana pulled her aside.
- We need to talk, Miranda! she said. - It's about you being the Secondary Heir.
- But I got news, I just...
- Your sister is taking over some important, but secret, mission. I can't inform you about those details, but you are the runner up to take over her mission in case she fails or gives in.
- What? Will I need to do something?
- Not really, you will just be a back up.
- Now, I got some news for you! Miranda tried again. But Ochana had more to say.
- There is just one rule that you must obey, Miranda. And that is...
- What?
- You will need to settle in a different world, such as Oasis Springs! I can't explain why that is important, but you will have no choice.
- But, it's too late, mom!
What is too late? Ochana asked.
- What I'm trying to tell you is that today I got engaged to Alan Mugger! I will move in with him to run Mugger Farm!
- No, Miranda, that is not an option! You will need to move away from Gloomville. Alan can join you there, but you can not settle here in Gloomville! Subject closed!
