Welcome! :) On this blog you will find stories, how i play and videos created with The Sims 4, but also a few projects from older game versions can be found in the Archive. The old TS3 stories have their own blogs. Most long going stories have a main page with index of updates.

Check out Simmerville's Youtube channel!

I'm no longer on Tumblr! I refused to give all their 3rd parties unlimited access to my computer. Link still works, but no updates.

Newcrest: Arena Shopping Mall - part 2

(TS4 Get To Work) Welcome back to my mini series where my sim Corinne Dougham will establish a shopping mall located in Newcrest. The build is actually named Arena Shopping Mall and contains 4 sections, or different stores if you like. Bakery, Clothing store, Retail and Photo Studio. It's small for a mall, but still quite a handful to run, especially for Corinne who started straight from CAS and with zero skills or business traits. This update will focus on the bakery, but first a few more words about Corinne Dougham...

I told you that she has no home but spends the nights on park benches. Well, that is no longer true, Corinne resides a spacious 2 stories townhouse located at Crestville. Crestville is one of 3 hoods at Newcrest, so it's not that far away from the mall at main Newcrest. Yes, I told you that she would only be used for building up the business, but then I started to like playing a sim with lots of money owning a whole shopping mall, so I figured she can stay. She will still not be a central part in my ongoing video series, Life Unlimited, at least not that I know of at this point.

Corinne opens Arena Shopping Mall all days except Sundays at 9 AM. She starts at the bakery, often referred to as Arena Café.

She brews coffee or tea, and cleans the tables. Then she might sit down to plan the day while customers and employees are flocking to the mall. First half of the day she will manage the mall and serve the bakery. Second half of day she will mostly be found in the Retail section that can be accessed from the bakery.

Because the lot is technically tagged as Retail, the bakery can't be run as a restaurant. But you can still make it look like an active, and quiet, place where guests actually sit down to enjoy fresh pastry or hot beverage.

Unfortunately none of this consume will give you any profit, but you will make money from other sales, so don't worry. Besides, it might be a good thing that starving customers can eat without leaving the lot. They will often go back inside the stores.

Corinne hired two guys to help running Arena Mall. They seem to take ownership of one cash register each, Iker Simmons in the bakery and Westley Rhodes in the clothing store. It took me quite some time to understand what work assignment each of them were having, if they carried on with the same job the next day, or if Corinne would need to reassign their daily tasks every day. Thanks Similius Corinne is a woman filled with work energy, and she never hesitates working for two!

There's no point in having the employee serving a cash register. Sales are done through talking on the floor. Customers never walk over to the cash register, like they did in TS2.

Well, Corinne already used the cupcake machine to fill the counters with various pastry. The food is not selling well though, might be because she hardly has any baking skills, LOL. But the bakery is more for the atmosphere than for making money. At a shopping mall the big money is in selling valuable retail items like decor objects, or clothes even.

The cupcake machine has a huge assortment of recipes, I'm really impressed with it and don't understand why I did not explore it more thoroughly in the past. I believe there were only a handful cupcakes with the base game, but now there are lots of stuff!

You might wonder how guests can sit down and eat pastry without paying? Well, you place a dish in the glass counter, but without setting it for sale. In mysterious ways customers will be able to grab a cake through that glass front, don't ask me how they do it, but I'm glad that they do :)

The Plain Doughnuts are not set for sale, all other cakes are.

First half of the day goes like a wind. Then it starts getting busy, as more customers must be rung up. That's when Corinne discovers that neither Iker nor Westley can be found anywhere! It's time to work, boys, why do you think you get paid?

Corinne finds them both in the swimming pool right behind the mall!

How depressing is that? You pay people for swimming for hours, and your customers leave without being offered to buy what they picked! Of course, Corinne can't accept this, she is a business woman after all.

She fires Iker, who didn't actually look like he understood anything. Maybe he thought swimming was part of his job? Bless him!

Meanwhile Westley had walked into the bakery still wearing his swim wear. Not tolerated!

On the other hand, Corinne always liked Westley, he has a good hand with most customers, it seems they like him. She gives him a warning and commands him to get dressed. Get to work!

Well, it's quite hectic to run a mall. Running a bakery at least is a life saver when you get hungry and tired, and need a rest. The business brings in good money every day now, probably around §1000 or more. Corinne is satisfied, and still the price range is only set to 25% profit. In Newcrest the locals are not poor, but Corinne figured they might stop by more often if the prices are low.

On the private side, she has realized that she should find herself a man! Corinne has started dating, unfortunately the men turn out to be unemployed and lazy lads with no place in her busy life.

She will need to look harder... Tomorrow she will need to hire a new employee, how well will that work out?

Next update will focus on the Clothing store!
