Industrial Pioneers of Evergreen Harbor

One of the first things I do when getting a new pack is focusing on the backstory of the world and those families that I want to keep. That's why I can present to you the stories of Evergreen Harbor's most famous men of the past - they founded the industry which also populated the place!

Evergreen Harbor never really honored these three men, all long gone. They could all deserve a statue! They sure made good profit from the growing industry, and well - their efforts left behind a landscape where pollution and industrial waste still overshadow any beauty, but they also hired lots of settlers. Many families would not have a job if not for Henry Pigulock, Collin Grims and Hector Sterling's tireless business efforts over several decades. And all 3 of them have descendants residing Evergreen Harbor today!

Henry Pigulock, Entrepreneur
(Y122 born in Sim City, Y210 died in Evergreen Harbor)

Back when Henry Pigulock founded Evergreen Harbor by starting his successful Pigulock Industries, Inc. (Year 156), nobody lived in this district. Aged 32 Henry got his Physics degree at University of Britechester and moved to Evergreen Harbor with his head full of great ideas that soon should form into a thriving industrial community. Nearest civilization was Gloomville to the west, but he rather invited unemployed people from Sim City to work at his factories.

The industry was developed on the harbor, while workers got tiny houses either in Port Harbor (Promise came later...) or in Conifer Station. Factory Directors resided the better areas of Conifer Station, and in Year 158 Henry Pigulock himself built the huge Pigulock Manor on the hill from where he could look down on the factories and hard working people in the harbor. The train station opened already in Year 159, and the first train arriving was named "Henry" after this district's leading man. From Year 164 workers settled closer to the new stone quarry, and Conifer Station got a better status.

Henry Pigulock married late. He was 52 when he met the 4 years younger Arlene Sumpton from Sim City. Some like to state that she was actually a poor worker that Henry fell in love with, but officially she did not leave the city until they married. Five years later their only child, Yasemin was born.

Pigulock Industries, Inc. closed down in Year 182 as a result of Evergreen Harbor's industrial era fading rapidly. Business was no longer profitable, workers claimed wage raises, other districts had established industry that took both workers and parts of the market. Some of Pigulock Industries, Inc.'s products were even copied. Henry lost contact with his daughter as she ran off to San Myshuno as a teenager.

Year 208 his wife Arlene died from old age, and only 2 years later Henry passed, too, aged 88. Their daughter inherited everything, which was reduced to mainly the Pigulock Manor and two of the harbor lots.

Today Pigulock Manor is resided by Yasemin (Pigulock) Tinker, her wife Tina and Tina's daughter Olive, who Yasemin has officially adopted.

Collin Grims, Prospector
(Y110 born in Newcrest, Y192 died in Everghreen Harbor)

Prospector Collin Grims was quite old when his family moved to Evergreen Harbor in Year 164. He had lived all his young adult life in Sim City with wife Amalie (born Sterling) and their daughter Francine. He had no degree, but worked a couple decades as a Masoner. He heard about a promising quarry east of Gloomville, and founded a company, Grims Quarry, Inc., that could buy it.

Slowly he managed to drag over workers from the harbor factories, and he offered workers a better settlement near his quarry. This is how the hood Grims Quarry formed. Also Port Harbor became more busy than ever before and all three hoods grew.

But already in Year 183 the golden era was facing its closing chapter and the finer families had already started leaving the district. The quarry was still active, but business went downhill. As costs were cut by all involved companies, there were more pollution, especially in the harbor, but no finances to limit the damages. The district was gradually filled with trash and industrial waste. At one point the business owners had to close down, and more and more residents were unemployed. Year 185 the Grims Quarry was forced to close down after 21 years.

Collin Grims remains a mysterious person. He was not very social, and he was known for making quite shady deals to achieve benefits. One example is how he promised his old friend, Gab Spencer, the hand of his daughter Francine, a deal that probably was made when she was way too young for marriage. When the wedding took place in Year 177 Francine was 29 and Gab Spencer was 75! They had one son before Gab died at 79. There are more examples on Collin Grims' many questionable deals, but as he was never seen as a criminal, nobody took action.

He died at home in Year 192, and Amalie S. Grims followed 3 years later. There was not much left for Francine to inherit, she had already taken over the Grims Estate when she married, and now that she was widowed she decided to sell the old house to the community (they rebuilt the Quarry Building there). Aged 50 Francine left for University of Britechester and when she returned she moved in with her son Cletus' family in Grims Quarry. She is today 76 and still lives with them, hoping that their youngest son, Giedon some day will take back the old Grims family name...

Mr. Hector Sterling, Civil Designer
(Y131 born in Sim City, Y217 died in Evergreen Harbor)

Hector Sterling was son of Beatrice & Cato Sterling, Lord of Ralphes. He moved to Conifer Station in Evergreen Harbor when his older brother was hired as Director of one of the Pigulock factories. Hector was a distant relative to Amalie Sterling, the wife of Collin Grims who also moved to Harbor district in these years.

With his university Physics degree he started a career as Civil Designer. He was also a board member at Pigulock Industries, Inc. for many years. His goal was to move to San Myshuno, that was rapidly growing at this time, but Hector got busy redesigning the old mill located east of main Port Harbor, a building that should become his residential base. That's when he started to make plans for a new Harbor district.

In Year 184, when most industrial chimneys had hardly cooled down, he announced his new era plans for the Harbor district. Hector had since long been a hissing rival to the Pigulock family, and if his plans succeeded this would be his grand victory over the district's former leadership! This is the first time the name Evergreen Harbor was used, and he renamed the old Port Harbor to Port Promise. However, the promising plans for revitalizing the community failed dramatically, much because Hector Sterling always focused more on distancing from Pigulock's old industry than on embracing a modern future.

Hector Sterling died in Y217, aged 85. The widow, Lucy R. Sterling died 6 years later. Today their only child, Bess Sterling, resides the modernized old mill. It's a well known fact that she inherited her father's hate towards the Pigulocks, but also his desire for improving Evergreen Harbor.
