Court House: Ella Hikes vs late Oscar Jupiter

(Region 12, Year 225) This Summer one interesting case at the regional Court House, located at Arts Quarter in San Myshuno, was Ella Hikes claiming late Oscar Jupiter to be the father of her child. Hikes was not aware that Oscar Jupiter died last Winter, so the charge was instead met by his children; Meteorologist Caspar Jupiter (Newcrest) and Journalist and Hood Contact Razira Jupiter (Oasis Springs).

Ella Hikes (71) first claimed that her daughter Emily Hikes (11) should have a yearly compensation of §2000 until her 15th birthday. She admitted that it was a high end claim, but that Oscar Jupiter could afford it!

Then, when she was informed of the death of Oscar Jupiter, she accepted to reduce the annual claim to §1000 per year including the year of his death + that her daughter should be accepted as his heir at the same level as his 2 adult children. This would mean getting a third of his worth!

Ella Hikes has been guided in this case by Lawyer Brooklynn Flores. They both seemed with good moods during the trial, and obviously the case seemed pretty clear.

Ella Hikes explained how she had quite randomly run into Oscar Jupiter 6 years ago, at a Gloomville bar, and that they moved on to Hikes' rented little house at Willow Field in Gloomville. Nine months later she knew he was the father to the baby girl, but did not want to cause him problems, because she had suspected that he was married.

Caspar Jupiter questioned the bar story, as his father would never visit a bar alone, and definitely never get intimate with a stranger in her home. He was already old at the time, from one of Oasis Springs finer families, and the story just doesn't make sense.

Lawyer Ferny requested a DNA-test on behalf of her clients. There was no point in continuing this case until there was proof of the fatherhood.

Judge Devon Lujan paused the case, and urged analyzes of the DNA of Emilia Hikes and Oscar Jupiter. Because the latter is already buried, his the DNA of his two children, Razira and Caspar, will do. Court will reopen in one week.

(7 days later) The DNA-results are in, and nothing suggests that these 3 persons can not have a common father. The chance they have the same father is 87,5%, which is way more than the 80% that is normally required. So, the verdict is that Oscar Jupiter was indeed the father of Emily Hikes.

Court concludes as follows:

1. Emily Hikes is to be known as the daughter of the late Oscar Jupiter.

2. Emily Hikes' mother Ella Hikes is to be paid the total of §5000 (covering 10 years each §500) to compensate for everyday costs.

3. Emily Hikes is considered heir to late Oscar Jupiter entitled to a third of his possessions. However, at the time of death he was residing at Bon Voyage Retirement Home and had already gifted his possessions to his daughter Razira Jupiter, according to the old heritage system. His only possessions was a bank account with §3777. Half was seen as the possession of his wife, Bertha Jupiter, who died the same month. Emily Hikes shall inherit the third of §1888, which is the total of §629.

4. Razira Jupiter and Caspar Jupiter, who already benefited from their father's possessions, must each pay §2500 to Ella Hikes and §315 to Emily Hikes.

After this conclusion Ella Hikes got furious resulting a Court House desk computer falling to the floor. She probably had paid most of the gain to her Lawyer. In the blink of a second it looked like if she had set up this whole thing for financial winning, but dramatically failed.

Added: It turns out Ella Hikes was arrested 11 years ago for theft, but not found guilty in court.
