Adoption at Retirement Home

(Year 232, Winter) What? A child adopted to live at a retirement home? Well, perhaps the story is less weird than you might think. It was not an elderly lodger who adopted the child, but the live-in Manager. And, the adoption is now pushing the Manager to quit her job.

Tammy Oaksdale comes from Gloomville, and will now return to the family nest at Willow Field.

Tammy Oaksdale (44) has been working at the Bon Voyage Retirement Home at Upperton in Gloomville, ever since the retirement home opened its doors a decade ago. She has her own little apartment there, and her job is to cook for the lodgers and to make sure the place is tended to. She used to be in a relation, but they sort of split when her boyfriend moved to run a small farm in Henford-on-Bagley. The idea was that Tammy should follow him, but instead she got the manager job in Gloomville, the district where they both grew up.

Bon Voyage provides 4 small suits rented by elderly lodgers, each with a living room, bedroom and bathroom. 2 of them have a small balcony, even. The common area that they all share, includes a dining room, a salon with a small stage for entertainment (guitar concert, jokes etc), and a library where lodgers can read or play a game of cards. Upstairs there is even a bar that is served a couple hours most nights. In other words - plenty of chores for the Manager.

Tammy is the only child to the farmer at Willow Fields, and the grand plan is to take over the farm some day. Both her parents are now elderly, so it might be time to move back to Willow Farm. This time bringing a little boy. Because she is getting older and is currently expecting to stay single, she decided to adopt little Nellot (3). Two years ago he moved from Windenburg to her flat at the Bon Voyage Retirement Home. His parents are not known, of course. He was already a toddler, and still is.

Nellot will probably get a better life at Willow Farm.

- I never actually planned to adopt, because I took it for granted that my ex-boyfriend and I would live at Willow Farm and have many children. But then I discovered that I am infertile, and this decision was quite easy. Nellot is the greatest pleasure of my life, and I can not wait to introduce him to the many farm animals.

Will Nellot become a Chef or an Artist? His parents (and talents) are not known to Tammy.

Having such a young assistant in the retirement home kitchen got a bit complicated, rthough. Nellot wanted to help, but instead he caused so much mess.

- There is a nice outdoor area, but as I can not spend much time away from my chores, I would need to leave him to some of the lodgers. They are here for a reason, you know, I can trust them to look after him for a few minutes, which they love, but not for the hour. And if Nellot would run off the lot they would have no chance of catching up with him.

So, the desicion was easy. Tammy loved her job, but moving to the farm that she will take over eventually, will make things a lot easier.

The current lodgers will miss little Nellot, though. Mrs Paula C. Altham Mester Mugger (86), newly wed to a baron - and Ochana Mox (80) who once in her young adult days won the Sims By Numbers TV show, agrees. A toddler running about at the retirement home made the days a lot more interesting! Now they hope the next Manager will bring a toddler, too!

- It's just like having a pet again, says Ochana Mox.

So, this position is currently vacant! You will need to cook, and som handiness and gardening skills will come in handy, too. Gourmet cooking is a plus, but can be learned through work.

Contact the Gloomville Mayor to apply for the job, the sooner tthe better.
