Updates on the Amalia Hoffstar situation

(Year 233, Spring) We heard that she is rather unfriendly towards the little nectar making family staying in a shed outside Villa Vigna. We also know that she was observed meeting with her cousin Elsa Gobelin (69) in San Myshuno not long ago. And today there are news regarding Amalia Hoffstar (32), who is actually the half sister of HRM King Tarriot.

King Tarriot was involved previously, traveling to Tartosa to check on the rumours of Amalia treatening the in-house nectar making family badly. The Laurent family used to live alone as caretakers of the actual villa, but when Amalia moved in, they were told to move to a caravan sized shed instead. The same shed that was used for the nectar making. Not only was the King raising Amalia as part of the royal family (her father was late Prince Consort Clempus and his second wife), but Villa Vigna is owned by the Crown, used by Amalia's family until one of the royal children moves in.

Now there are news that Amalia, who was never a member of the royal family nor the royal House of Luxe-Hamper, has taken her conflict further! Accordng to the Laurent family they were thrown out from the shed at Villa Vigna. Amalia has no right to decide such things, so reactions from either His Majesty or the Royal Chamber - who administrates the Mazaloom Royal Trust, are expected.

Hector Laurent (53) says that they own little more than what they wear and what is packed in a few old suitcases. They have decades of experience from making nectars, so they will probably look for some other place to live and focus on their profession, but where will that be? They are true Tartosians, but there are no vacant house in Tartosa. They might move west to the Advorton region, if they can find something to rent.

- Not being able to buy a starter home at me age certainly feels bad, Laurent says. - Without possessions we will not be given the option to borrow money either, and then we can't buy a small place of our own. We might need to look to Ravenwood, but none of us would like to settle that far north, besides we don't think nectar making is a big thing up there.

So, with the Laurent family out of the shed, how will Amalia - or Baroness Amalia de Verte, that happens to be her official title - handle the nectar tradition of Villa Vigna?

The backstory is that King Tarriot owns the only produce deed giving exclsive rights to sell Fruit Nectar commercially. To keep this right there must be a minimum of production, and this always took place at Villa Vigna. It remains to see whether the Fruit Nectar will be made elsewhere, or if Amalia's household will replace the Laurents. Amalia's husband is a local, Robbiam de Buttercups (45), well skilled in nectar making and also hired as a Gardener at the Royal Palace. He might take up the nectar making business, as nobody can imagine Amalia stepping into the nectar making bucket.

Amalia and Robbiam has 2 children, both still infants. The Honorable Clemph Julian Hoffstar (3) and the Honorable Chalyssa Celine Hoffstar (2). Although the boy is the oldest, it's clear that Chalyssa will be raised as the future Head of House of Hoffstar, because the Verte barony requires green eyes. We now have information suggesting that Clemph has already moved to a foster home to be raised by Amalia's cousin, Elsa Gobelin in San Myshuno!

Aristocracy has always done this; Sending some of their children to be raised by relatives or allies, helps building network. But this was normally done when a family had a large number of children, while others had few or none at all. It was a positive community mechanism. But in this case, there were only 2 children, a number that most families easily can handle. Some says that Amalia never wanted children, and if it was not for her fresh barony she would never have had a second child.

There might be a formal contract between Amalia and Elsa Gobelin, but their plan is not official. Elsa is probably paid a set sum of money per year, for a set number of years. Perhaps these details will hit the press at some later time.
