Nectars and Rumors

(Year 231 Fall) Months ago these photos were taken to show off a regular day in a Nectar maker's life. Since then a situation has ocurred in this very household of Tartosa, and you probably already realize it's all about Baroness Amalia de Vert - once again...

Her civic name is Amalia Ellice Luxe-Hamper Hoffstar (30), and last winter she was granted a new barony by her half-brother, King Tarriot. Amalia is not a member of the royal family and she was not born into the royal House. She was often causing trouble, as she grew up with the 4 royal children at the royal palace, Chateau Peak.

Growing up, she was allowed to reside at Villa Vigna in Tartosa, a property owned by the Mazaloom Royal Trust. It means she will probably need to give up this villa as the royal children grows up, but that is still a good number of years ahead.

Residing at Villa Vigna includes tending the King's obligations of producing the Vino nectar. A couple of nectar makers do most of this job, Baroness Amalia is mostly overseeing their work. And this is where the conflicts build.

The Laurent family used to residen the villa, but were shortly dismissed to live in a smal garden shed, while Baroness Amalia and her new husband Robbiam (43) establish their family in the villa. These workers are not happy with the situation, and the King has already been visiting to try to solve the conflict.

Every day the Laurent workers need to provide the villa with minimum 3 bottles of nectar. They are allowed to keep one bottle as their payment, and the baroness grabs all the rest. She then provides the products for sale, mostly at local markets but also exporting to a Broker, as requested by the deed letter.

Amalia and husband Robbiam reqularly taste the nectar to ensure the good quality that is expected.

The Vino deed might soon get extinct as the entire nectar making routines are about to get modernized. This is all handled by the Trades Guild, and the Trades & Taxes Department. King Tarriot is not likely to lose his old deed, but it might get replaced with another deed, causing this household to no longer produce Vino, but something else. These changes will probably be decided during this coming Winter, with full effect from Year 233. It is to early to say whether the baroness will then need to ffind herself a regular job. Bills are not cheap staying in this villa, and she does need to pay the running costs, although she can use the estate without paying rent.

Baroness Amalia and husband Baron Robbiam, of local House de Buttercups, already had 2 children. They need a child with the baroness' green eyes in order to pass on the barony including all rights. The first son did not come with green eyes and is therefore not in line to the barony. The 2nd child was just born, so it might be too early to verify the genetics. There is a chance they will need a 3rd baby. Amalia is not happy about having the house full of children, if she could choose she would probably have as few children as possible. However, she founded House of Hoffstar in order to receive the barony, so having several children will indeed strengthen this fresh house, securing its future. Due to the nectar workers having 2 teenage kids, this household is now full, which might give Amalia the excuse she has been looking for to fire the Laurents. She can only do so if the nectar deed is taken well care of by others, and her husband might be the one who needs to step in.

Time will tell...
