(Year 234, Summer) He lead an impressive career, painting portraits east and west. Vince Remeréz (76) can't remember working with anything else but his canvas. And this Winter he will lead a new TV series where we'll get to see real old national treasures - painted portraits with an interesting story.
Most days of the week Vince can be found in his atelier on top floor at Casbah Gallery in San Myshuno. There he had his base for decades. The old man might need to slow down a bit due to age, but there exists no such plan quite yet.
- I'm lucky! I am allowed to do what I like the most. Why give up on such a gift?
He lives with model and showbiz star Penny Pizzazz nearby. They have 2 children that were protected from the photographers - at least for now. The only reason he might skip a day or two from his dreamjob, is when Penny needs to work a couple days away from home. Then he needs to spend the day with his kids.
- They are my 2nd dreamjob, right after the painting.
And now there is a TV series coming up. Was it his idea?
- Not really. I never was on TV and I never dreamed of being a TV host of any kind. I prefer being alone in my atelier painting. I give painting skill lectures occasionally, but that is about the art of painting. Talking instead of painting. Hosting the TV series was different, I talk about the history of painted portraits, some of it involves the life of the person who was portrayed, not neccesarily about the art. It felt different, and I might learn to like it, but it also reminded me of why I prefer the art of painting. The hard work is better than all the talking.
Vince delivered numerous portraits during his life long career. From all corners of our nation the elite came to him to have their portraits done. Today there are portraits from his hand, decorating estates nation wide.
- You know, when someone becomes Head of House they think there must be a huge portrait of them decorating their hallway. I recall once I painted the portrait of a fresh baron. He never debated the actual size of the portrait, and I wanted to test my idea of micro portraits. Small portraits can be nice, too! He was very upset when he saw the result and refused to pay. I think that was when I realized that some people get their portrait not so much for the art, but in order to impress others. You really learn to read a person's personality, but then it gets difficult holding back when portraying them. A bigger ego might easily outclass their natural facial expression.
- If I ever get to old to paint, I might have a bright future on TV, Vince laughs. - There I can even sit down while I talk.
