Welcome! :) On this blog you will find stories, how i play and videos created with The Sims 4, but also a few projects from older game versions can be found in the Archive. The old TS3 stories have their own blogs. Most long going stories have a main page with index of updates.

Check out Simmerville's Youtube channel!

I'm no longer on Tumblr! I refused to give all their 3rd parties unlimited access to my computer. Link still works, but no updates.

Sandtrap Crafts Market

In my Region 12 there are 2 markets with traditions going more than 100 years back. In Gloomville (aka Willow Creek) there is the Mugger Fair, which is a farmers' market. This blog post focuses on Oasis Spring's Sandtrap Crafts Market - once a thriving market for anything horse related, but over time transformed to a market for anyone to sell their crafted goods.

Sandtrap is located in Oasis Springs' poor hood, Nookstone (some still use the old name, Bedrock). It was originally initiated by the first Lord Bedrock, Kevin Greco, who was the father of today's Natalie G. Twoller, Lady Bedrock. This family still owns this market, but it's become more of a hangout for tourists and locals, than a valuable business asset. The place is worn and shabby, and the owner has no intention (nor funds required) of upgrading it.

The ground used to be where Baron Verde kept his horses, and parts of the old horse stalls can still be identified as parts of today's 6 sales booths. They are meant to be used by craftsmen directly, locals who craft their goods at home or in an atelier, and come here to sell them.

The offer is varied, covering pottery, wood work, paintings, knitting, candles and flower arrangements. Each booth also has a few décor items for sale, just to make the market busy even when the sales tables are not technically served. Right now there is even a booth selling harvests, but this is an exception as farming crops are more easily sold at the Mugger Fair at Muggerdale in Gloomville. Besides - there are no dedicated farmers in Oasis Springs, except from a few families growing lemons and herbs.

In the foreground some crafted pottery including mugs, plates and vases. Central on the lot is a small stage where musicians can practice, but that also functions as a speakers' corner, with speeches or political debates. The year between Nomination Day and Election Day (every 5th year) this arena gets quite busy.

Technically the lot is a retail store, and these goods are set for sale the ordinary way. The table to the left is a version of the street sale table (garage sale @aroundthesims). It turns out a sim can't use all tech abilities of sales tables, probably because it's not owned by the visiting sim, but they can place items directly on the surface and run a sale, and they do attract customers, so it will work somehow, just not by NPCs.

It can get rather packed! 10 or 11 visitors including a global superstar is not bad for a few flowers at a non-served sales stall!

The pottery booth is popular, too, even if there is nobody serving it at the moment. The lot was owned by an active sim in order to set objects for sale, but is now operated by NPCs. Unfortunately the NPCs don't wear the uniforms I designed for the market, and they don't serve the sales tables, but that is a small catch that I can live with if everything else works.

There is still a lot of functionality that needs some checking and adjusting, but I wanted to share this place in case you might like to do a similar lot. It's very simple, and if you don't have the retail (GTW) or sales table (CiLi or ECO or CoLi) functionality, you can just pretend the actual shopping, and use the booths for activities and show rooms etc. Add a food stall or a grill, a few games and activities, and you can still have a thriving community lot that is a little more specific and historical than the typical park.
