Investiture: Baroness Morgan of Verde

(Year 225) First day of Winter is Investiture Day, and in Verde this year was busy! Morgan Fyres (32) married to Baron Auphor Sax-Donnersmalt of Verde (84) this Spring, and now it was time to formalize her Baroness title as well as for her to become a worthy member of the exclusive Verde District Order.

As she is not the Peer to this high nobility barony, but only married to the Peer, I would normally not see this as a major event. Investitures like this normally take place at home, handled by the Peer himself, and it only requires two witnesses, who can actually be servants of the house. But this time so much is new at Verde in Oasis Springs, so I wanted at least to have a formal investiture photo of the fresh Baroness Morgan.

The Verde Trust actually owns a full investiture parure for the baroness to wear for this occasion. The tiara is basically rather moderate, and this extended version is used for investitures, only. So, it might not be seen again in a few decades. There exist four sets like this, originally commissioned by Baron Victor von Donnersmalt of Verde (Year 61), gifted for each of his four children. From them, the sets have been passed down through generations, until a trust captured the jewels. Verde has the August Jean Parure (pink gems), Gloom has orange gems, de Cavalier has indigo gems, and in addition there is a set with yellow gems that was on royal hands but was secured by the National Historical Museum right after the Great Revolution (Y120).

The investiture also legally secures Morgan her widow rights, that will come into effect once her 52 years older husband dies, eventually.

Morgan also was knighted as a member of the very exclusive Verde District Order. There can never be more than eight members at any time, and Baron Auphor gave his wife the final membership. Without  membership she would still be allowed to attend the order's gala dinners (all members can normally bring one person for the gatherings), but not to host any events on behalf of the order, as a widow. Only the Sovereign himself can make changes, such as include new members, though.

Morgan and Auphor recently had a daughter, Lady Vitorina Cordenza Sax-Donnersmalt, and it is expected that they will try again shortly - because the barony does require a male heir. The very young Lady will not be able to have a son before Baron Auphor dies, but she might have enough time to affect the line of successors to the Meadows dukedom? They are in need of male heirs, too!

Well, what is a photo session without some dedicated clay molding? I hate it with passion, but must admit it was a weird and tad funny thing to do at your own investiture...

Oh, and the painting on the wall is of Morgan's husband, Baron Auphor, on his coronation day one year earlier. It's overseeing the hall entrance of Yuma Heights. Baroness Morgan's official photo portrait will obviously not get such a prominent display.
