(Year 228, Brindleton Bay) We know that the young Duke Charlopold de Cavalier dated Luna Villareal back when they both studied at University, but we also know that Charlopold's old fashioned mother, Old-Duchess Claudine never approved on their relation. The Villareals were more known for their shady businesses than anything else, and Luna Villareal is nothing but a commoner. The future duke would need to search higher!
Well, there has been a couple years already, and now that Charlopold was crowned Duke de Cavalier, being Peer of the dukedom of Brindleton, as his elderly parents stepped back to live a quiet life at a privately owned manor near by, Charlopold might have thought that he has become the one to make his own decisions. Will it be possible to marry Luna anyway?
He has been seeing her frequently. Their relation took a short break after she was disapproved, but neither of them ever bothered to find someone else. It's of course not official, but Charlopold is seriously thinking of proposing to Luna. It might cause loud protests, but staying together for all these years should mean something! Why should their feelings not be respected?
Charlopold lives pretty much alone at Chateau Cavalier, only joined by the Butler and a new Cook in the huge building. His sister married to House von Kaching and moved to Gloomville last year. His younger brother, Lord Leon, will get his University degree this coming Summer. If Charlopold proposes to Luna, the marriage will still not take place until next year. Everyone moves slowly in those noble circles, invitations are expected to be received early.
This night Luna was again visiting him. They enjoyed their tea in Mera's drawing room, when firm steps could be heard from the Grand Salle.
The visitor steadily walked toward Mera's Drawing room. The red coat was familiar, it was Charlopold's mother, Old-Duchess Claudine!
She could hardly believe her eyes! Finding Charlopold with his arm around the commoner that she had warned him about! Had he not understood what nobility is all about? She would never allow the Villareal DNA into this house! Neither she nor her husband, Old-Duke Aquess, would ever approve on a commoner!
She is an elderly woman of good manners. She could have made a terrible scene right there, but that would have been just as little noble as marrying a commoner. She counted to ten, made sure her son had caught her emotions, turned and marched out of Chateau Cavalier in a hurry.
Luna did catch the situation, too. Ten minutes later she excused herself and left. Charlopold sat there alone in the drawing room, sipping to his tea. Now, what should he do?
The following days he could hardly make any work done in his office. He canceled a community engagement as he could not represent his house in a mood like this. Applying to the regional Council for the 5 years allowances took him twice as long as it normally would. They received funds for maintenance five years ago, and he is currently the only person on the Cavalier Trust's pay roll, but still, the paperwork was a never ending process.
He was thinking of Luna most of the time. Yes, they had been speaking on the phone, but it was like they both had realized that going on with their strong relation would be too upsetting. He was of a high nobility House, while Luna was the daughter of a man who most saw as a criminal. The fact that her father was long dead made no difference.
Everyone expected Charlopold to marry someone with a minimum of nobility. But it would not work - he only wanted Luna.
