(Year 229) Yesterday a special press meeting took place at Chateau Peak. Journalists from newspapers like San Myshuno Times, Mazaloom Tribute, and The Simday News were recognized, as was a couple attendees from Plumbob Pictures. After the traditional mingling, including sweet finger food and coffee, His Royal Majesty King Tarriot was introduced by the royal Chief Attendant.
He informed the press that in the past The Royal Chamber rarely addressed mistakes done by peers within the large peerage, but now they saw no other way than taking action to correct what in best case is a mistake. And in worst case? A public status robbery?
All involved peers were already addressed directly, but the press meeting was needed to make sure that also those spreading news are well informed. We are talking about noble titles, and although several errors have been made over the generations, perhaps the worst mistake is how children of barons are styled.
The Peerage of Mazaloom has rather few levels of nobility. Only the dukedoms, counties and baronies, a few who are Lord by peerage, and finally some low nobility titles. Still the titles have been messed up as both dukes, counts and barons have been styling their sons Lord and daughters Lady. According to each Letter of patent only children of dukes and the eldest son of counts shall use the Lord and Lady title. Only children of a Lord (in some cases also a Lady) shall use the style Mister or Miss. In other words, styling children with Lord, Lady, Mister or Misses is restricted to dukedoms and counties.
Children of barons are meant to use the title Honorable, and the child of the Honorable will not earn any title.
The misunderstanding certainly comes from the fact that there are baronies that are ranked as high nobility, as the baron is sovereign to a District Order, but there must never be any doubt about dukes ranking higher than barons. If they were to use the same title for their children, why would we bother creating both dukedoms and baronies? It might also be a bit confusing that here are Lords by peerage, and also those with a so called noble title use Lord or Lady, but written in a specific way.
No no! We will not claim adults to give up on their already established title. |
King Tarriot continued explaining that he wanted all children of barons, younger than 25, to adjust their title accordingly. Anyone older than 25 with the wrong title will not be addressed because it might cause more trouble than gain. Anyway, they are very few. The affected houses will deal with the case within four weeks, to update the public Residents Registry.
Although no specific houses were mentioned in the press room, the Region 12 press quickly realized that the problem most likely refers to the Myshuno barony (House of Thebe), Gloom barony (House von Kaching) and Verde barony (House of Sax-Donnersmalt). Myshuno has been dormant for some years until a teenager was crowned last year, so the chance of recent mistakes there is minimal, which leaves only Gloom and Verde.
King Tarriot asked the press to avoid spreading the misleading titles, by checking their current cases. A written statement will be sent shortly.
