(Year 230, Spring) It's a masterpiece, it's a legend, and it has never before been exhibited in Mazaloom. No wonder National Museum curator Nancy D. Roxenfox (63) is super enthusiastic when announcing the arrival of famous Snorthia painting, «Moon Lisa»!
Famous painting «Moon Lisa» is coming to Mazaloom! |
- This is one of my dream-come-through moments! Moon Lisa is the mysterious masterpiece where origin, artist and model are all unverified! This woman might have lived in the Snorthia countryside about 130 years ago, so in order to actually have a dating of this grand work, the sources say around Year 100.

The artist might be Leon deSimsky, a male painter traveling a lot between the kingdoms of Mazaloom, Snortha and Sea, also residing for 10 years in Mazaloom's Tartosa (Y177-187). If he is the master, we can say that our nation owns a certain share in this painting, making it the coming exhibit even more historically grand. However, experts more than suggest that the vague background of the painting might be the Snorthia wasteland and not anything like Tartosa, so there is plenty confusion involved. DeSimsky never lived in Snorthia, but he spent a few months there on-and-off (Y172-176). That was obviously much later than Year 100, and if he is the artist it would call for a new dating. If the dating is correct, he can not be the artist!
Neither the model was verified, Moon Lisa was never found in any official records. The hair cloth may just be an artistic element, though, the model might have lived at a time when such cloths were no longer in use. In fact, they were common in the medieval era, which ended around Year 50. So the outfit doesn't help at all.
Art critic and Art School Principal, Diego Lobo (50), has suggested that the painting was made in order to confuse.

- This woman is not a classic beauty, perhaps Moon is just a reference to her moon-ish face? Perhaps the artist named her Moon Lisa just because of her round face and very pale skin? If Lisa has anything to do with her real name, it could be short for anything from Liza, Elisabeth, Elsa or any old fashioned name starting or ending with LIS.
Anyway - Mazaloom National Museum has finally succeeded arranging an exchange exhibit with Snorthia. We will be touring Moon Lisa, while Snorthia borrows a few of our old items with relevance to their history. So mark your calendar:
Fall: Casbah Gallery, San Myshuno
Winter: Windenburg Historical Museum, Windenburg
Spring: Municipal Muses, Gloomville
