(Gloomville, Year 227) Finally, Lord Edward Be. von Kaching of Gloom (46) and Lady Merielle de Cavalier (34) could give each other their vows. It's been a long wait including University studies and separation. Merielle got her psychology degree this Spring and already got herself a Professor post.
It's time to merge House von Kaching (barony, Gloomville) and House de Cavalier (dukedom, Brindleton Bay)!
The long awaited ceremony took place this Saturday at Church of Similius in Gloomville. Here's a series of pictures documenting most of it.
There was a small crowd of cheering locals by the entrance of the church. The weather this 7th day of Summer was lovely; Sunny and warm. Royals never visit this region, so the high nobility houses get their fair share of attention. Locals see the wedding - rightfully - as the first step of Lord Edward taking over the Gloom barony as his elderly father has long expressed a wish to step back. Only high nobility Peers are admitted the right to pass on their position while they are still alive. Unfortunately only one district per year can have a peer investiture, and both Verde barony last year and Myshuno barony later this year, forces the Gloom barony to hold back until Winter next year. With todays's wedding at least Lord Edward and Lady Merielle can move together as the waiting continues.
Priest Antonius Dipperwell (59) was greeting everyone at the door. Traditionally the Gloom barony protected the Church of Similius, as their main church is located in their district. Baron Bud has been their Patron for decades. Therefore, choosing the church for this wedding was no tough decision.
The guests arrive at Gloom Garden! Paparazzi is present as well, and at least the high nobility couples are used to pose and smile at happy events like this.
Parents of the groom, Baron Bud of Gloom (79) with Baroness Rose (77), both naturally excited over this big day. Edward is their only son, but they also have a daughter, Lady Aili, who married to House of Landgraab several years ago.
The color scheme of the wedding, according to the invitations, is blue and purple. Baroness Rose wears her White Pearl Triplet Stone Necklace with a purple stone to honor her new daughter-in-law, hailing from House de Cavalier which has purple as their signature color. The necklace is nothing old, but the baroness often wears it - normally with a white center stone.
Paula Ching Lady Mugger (76) is the groom's only Aunt, sister of the baron. She is known to lack style, and showed up wearing nothing impressive (except too heavy make-up). She even came without a small hat that is kind of expected by the females, unless they have a very high hairdo. Lady Mugger almost fell over when stepping out of the taxi, and it was obvious she might have enjoyed some nectar in the early hours.
Malcolm Landgraab Lord Cacti (74) arrived with his wife, Lady Aili (42), who is sister to the groom. Malcolm has turned elderly, but seemed to be with good health. The couple resides at Verde in Oasis Springs, and two of their three sons joined them here today.
Finally the crowd could cheer for the parents of the bride, traveling all the way from Brindleton Bay. Old-Duke Aquess (81) and Old-Duchess Claudine (77) arrived with their oldest son, Duke Charlophold Demitris de Cavalier (36). He is single (and therefore wearing no gloves with his morning suit. The young duke is said to be dating the commoner Luna Villareal (36), who was disapproved by his parents back when they were still holding the dukedom. Gossip press has been speculating on how the young man will deal with the situation now that he himself is in charge.
Inside the church both the main floor (with extra benches) and the upstairs gallery was full. The groom, Lord Edward, was standing alone at the alter, waiting for the bride to arrive.
The groom's family is not big enough to fill the entire left side, but at least the first 3 rows were familiar faces. The golden-blond Landgraab twins (8) can be seen right behind their father.
House de Cavalier is much bigger, Old-Duchess Claudine's two sisters married into House of Saxor and House of Rab-Saxor, and including Old-Duke Aquess' niece (Lady Elvira of Sür-Blyth (43), red hair right behind him), they could easily fill their half and more. Claudine's sister, Duchess Gloria of Meadows (71), wears baby blue on (third row). The blond man on second row is the bride's younger brother, Lord Leon de Cavalier (32).
And here comes the bride!
In my region there is no tradition of a bride's father joining her on the final parade as a single woman. She will hand herself over to her future husband, at least when the marriage is her own decision.
Lady Merielle wears a long, white dress with lots of sparkling diamonds. The veil is topped with blue flowers, matching her bouquet and hinting to her future at House von Kaching. She has expressed that blue is her favorite color, too.
And then they both said «I do» and a new life begins! Tonight there will be a gala dinner at Simmerville Studio (Umbrage Manor can't serve this many guests). And then Merielle will move in to prepare for her duties as the future Baroness of Gloom.
Their official wedding photo(s) might get published later.
