Nobility Reform: Nobility Career

(Year 234, Winter) The second part of the Nobility Reform, is the new Nobility career. It is totally separated from the first part, the Dynasties. Technically a noble person won't need a dynasty, and a Dynasty member don't need the Nobility Career. In Mazaloom these two features do connect, though, as we use the career slightly different. Here, you can't have a peerage without also being member of a House, and all Houses had to register as dynasties in order to obtain their new crest emblem.

By design, the career is like most other careers, where you start on the lowest level and climb your way up through promotions. In Mazaloom and our neighboring nations, the career is used for categorizing nobility. This means you immediately get the nobility career level that suits with your highest ranked peerage. This category is static, and no promotions will be involved.

Nobility reform is a joint projects between Empire of Snorthia, Mazaloom kingdom, and Sea kingdom. Of these three Mazaloom is the only with a large peerage involving numerous nobles. Still, the three nations have agreed on a rank of 10 levels where at least the top and bottom are similar. It makes it easier for all to understand at least those levels.

Left to right: HRM King Tarriot of Mazaloom, the Emperor of Snorthia, HRM King Salomar of Sea.

In addition, Empire of Snorthia also have 3 internal kingdoms, but only one of those are still an active kingdom; The Kingdom of Simerinia. The King of Simerinia is minor to the Emperor, and he ranks below both the Emperor and his Crown Princi.

Future Emperors and Monarchs will come from heritage. The only kingdom that can be claimed by duelling might be the Simerinia kingdom (Khun), but as this is ranked only 8th, rivals won't be assigned by design.

There is a new throne object, needed for performing some of a noble's duties. The tall version is intended for the 4 upper levels of the career, in Mazaloom this means Monarch, Crown Prince/ss, as well as high nobility dukes and counts. Others will use the lower throne, if needed. The throne's functionality is limited to each district, and in districts with numerous Peers, there might even be a throne room on a community lot. However, because your title is static, it's less important having a throne for the lower career levels. Some duties can be performed from a computer, as well.

The bottom level for all 3 nations is Knight/Dame, titles not used by either nation before. Becoming a They are not seen as nobility, but aristocracy, and because those knighted will already have a House/Dynasty, this adds no real change to those involved, except being titled Knight/Dame in formal settings, instead of the old Mr/Mrs. In everyday communication they will still be referred to as Mr/Mrs. Knight/Dame, simply means you get a start of nobility. It involves no peerage, and has little purpose beyond officially being allowed working as a noble. Empire of Snorthia has promised to implement the Knight/Dame level shortly, but at the moment it has not been handled.

In Mazaloom the 2nd level is our Master titles, neither are they actually seen as real nobility, but they had to be included above Knight/Dame.

HN means High Nobility.

As was indicated in the article covering Dynasties, each level of Nobility gets a unique shape of their Crest.

In Mazaloom kingdom Barons use one shape (4), while dukes use another (8), monarch use the 10th. The 10 ranks have different titles in each nation. All 3 nations aggreed on using the same crest shapes ranked as above, but their titles will differ - see below.

So, when seeing a certain dynasty crest from Snorthia, Mazaloom, or Sea, you will immediately know the rank of that dynasty. All round crests (1) are used by the lowest level, Knight/Dame, and the solid background color will indicate where the dynasty belongs, geographically. All dynasties on level 1 use the brown background, while all ranking higher will use the burgundy color.
