(Year 233, Spring) Yesterday Vince Remeréz (75), painting artist and leader of the Artists Guild core group, met the press at Casbah Gallery in his home hood, Arts Quarter of San Myshuno. The occasion was that the Artists Guild worked closely with Talent Agencies last year in order to improve routines involving performing and creative artists - a work that is now about to close.
- This time we chose to look into the conditions for Actors, Models and TV-personalities. It turned out that the many talent agencies were too restrictive with what information they give out. New and hopeful performing artists will hardly get a contract and the system appeared as closed to anyone outside the right network.
This had to be dealt with and new webpages are on their way.
The Artists Guild core group also involves famous names like actress Judith Ward and violin virtuoso Toby Twoller Greco. While all three are famous artists, only Ward is familiar with the talent agency business - besides her own global acting career she is also the Principal of The Showbiz Academy in Del Sol Valley. The high school is all about building talents. It's well known that the acting business is tough, and that some more transparency would benefit everyone involved.

One example is that all actors filling leading and supporting roles must now be signed with an agency, this is old routine to films, but new to most TV productions. The adjustment is result of film and TV working differently, and actors more often work in both fields.
Four talent agencies participated to this process, namely Well Suited Talent Agency, G.R.A.N., Everyday Extras Talent Agency and A.I. Staffing Agency. At G.R.A.N. (Goldie Ruthfield Acting Network) the Manager, Gerda Ruthfrield is glad the common routines were looked into, but not so happy about all agencies needing to use the same platform.
- Our success was built on our unique contact with our talents. Now that agencies will have a more or less standard web page, much of our uniqueness will be taken away from us. We are known to base our business on personal meetings rather than internet technology.
Another agency, A.I. Staffing Agency, might have a quite different approach, but when we contacted them we could only reach a computer voice not understandin g our request but instead asking us to fill in their online form.
Beyond a few standard elements the agencies can customize their content. The most important standard is how they list their signed talents and how they deal with a talent's reviews. All central roles will contribute to the general rating of a production, with Lead roles counting most, and Extras least. This new system will probably affect how the production companies cast for their future films, TV shows and commercials. Casting better Actors might bring better reviews and score higher on the annual Top 10 Film & TV list, but will also cost more. A brand new bonus routine will award Lead and Supporting roles of productions reaching top 5 of the list. It opens for better pay for the top cast.
Agencies will also be obliged to publish the official Top 10 Film & TV list, showing what productions were more popular with ticket sales and viewer numbers over the past year.
Remeréz unveiled that the new web pages will go public this Summer. As soon as the system is fully tested and running, other showbiz companies will join. In addition to the four talent agencies for actors, also Authors (Moon Books) and Musicians (High Note Talent Agency) will be involved in this format later this year.
And we can not wait to see how this might lift the many creative careers!
