Prime Minister Candidates and Political Programs

(Year 234, Fall) It's getting closer to the Year 235 election (1st day of Spring), and yesterday all 4 political parties reveiled their candidates and program to be voted on. Each party has a set of N.A.P.s and exra taxes/tax reliefs, and on 1st day of Fall prior to any election all this info go public.

It means that all candidates are known, and the waiting and speculations are over. The list shows each party's candidates for the 21 district Mayors, which is now the most local level involved with the election (the old Hood Contacts are no longer elected). In addition, the top candidates are running for
Prime Minister, and top 6 will be likely for the Minister posts. Let the election campaigns begin!

The first thing we'll check is of course those top candidates. The election routine is mostly based on the candidates' skills, popularity and political experience, those very talented will often be re-elected. But every now and then a new well skilled and popular candidate might surprise, and this time there is even a new political party stepping up! All in all there will be new candidates in more districts than normal.

Candidates don't need to work professionally with politics. Those filling the Cabinet, which includes the Prime Minister and the 5 Ministers, will not be occupied with a job outside, but anyone else with a seat  might have a part time job or a family business as long as it won't conflict with their political position. There are a few traditional restrictions to those lists, though - more custom than rules. Previously, the top candidate ought to represent the party's largest fraction, but from this election parties no longer have multiple fractions. With four parties those details are less needed. Other rules are unchanged; like no candidate can be Elder on Nomination Day, and all candidates needs to meet a minimum level of certain skills (Logic, Research & Debate). The list must have minimum 8 and maximum 21 names, where top 8 must represent all 8 regions.

There is a total of 22 seats of People Chamber to be filled, and this election is the first where Church of Similius will have only 1 seat (used to be 2). Previously 19 of 21 seats were elected, but this time it will be 21 of 22. District Mayors will fight over the region's Councilor post, the winner also wins the seats representing that region's population (1 to 5 seats).

This is how the People Chamber is filled today:

You can find plenty more information regarding Mazaloom's political system.

The top Candidates

This release of candidates was a bit more exciting than  normal, because two current party leaders are too old to run again. Prime Minister Rob Wilder (73, RIGHT) is forced to step back, and so is oposition leader (aka Vice) Fanny Silverbone (LEFT). Who will take over their canditatures? RIGHT and LEFT are the most likely to get the PM, but MIDDLE and WORLD has top candidates, too.

When it comes to winning the election, their district Mayor candidates are actually more interesting than the top candidate. It's the Mayors who must win their battles to collect as many seats as possible. RIGHT provides 20 candidates (21 is max allowed = 1 per district), LEFT has 18 candidates, MIDDLE has 12 candidates, and WORLD party has 10 candidates.

We find that RIGHT's top candidate is Mr Charloman C. Dougham (61), a veteran on the political stage. Now that Wilder could not run, many expected Dougham to step up. He resides in Newcrest. Some says his biggest disadvantage is that he used to represent the party's Simoleons for Everyone fraction, while the Foundation of Less Mischief fraction was traditionally the stronger one, but now that fractions were ditched, this should be less important.

2nd is Emma R. Golden (64) from Del Sol Valley, experienced from most political levels.
3rd is perhaps a surprise to some; Lord Bennet Ross (49) from Henford-on-Bagley. He is the brother of the Duke of Rossie, but is not strongly involved with the dukedom. He is not a newcomer to politics either.

LEFT's top candidate is Mrs Anaya Jang (68) from San Myshuno. She is also a veteran, being a Minister for several periods, the longest for the Ministry of Culture & Entertainment.

2nd is Laurent Pepperstone (63) from San Sequoia. He was Prime Minister Year 225-230, and might have wanted the top position. Anyway, it's great to see him back in the top.
3rd is Marvin R. Hyggeloth (67) from Nordhaven. He is perhaps the biggest surprise, making a solid jump. His experience is limited to running for Hood Contact (Gloomville), unsuccessfully. If LEFT wins the Year 235 election he will probably become Minister, even!

MIDDLE's top candidate is expectedly Rebekah Starks (47) from Evergreen Harbor. She is expected to become Evergreen Harbor's first Mayor as they got district status after the previous election. She had a seat at People Chamber for a wile.

2nd is Elvira (Echos) Honeydew (52) from Britechester. She is a routined Politician, currently the Advorton Councilor and previously with a seat at People Chamber.
3rd is Launi Bitten (57) from Moonwod Mill, also a longtimer, but never before liating this high.

WORLD party is new at this election, and their top candidate is naturally their founder Roger Mistfield (69) from Chestnut Ridge. He used to support the RIGHT party, but founded WORLD party a few years ago. The new party seems to be closer to LEFT than RIGHT, though, especially in questions regarding the monarchy.

2nd is Abrin (Wusha) Ruthfield (63) from Del Sol Valley (originally from San Myshuno), mostly with local political experience.
3rd is Hertog Lobster (52) from Windenburg, but with no experience from national politics.

District Mayors

While People Chamber seats will be filled by these lists, the first step of the election will focus on the 21 district Mayors. Everyone on the lists are candidates for Mayors, but if they lose that position  they will still be actual for a seat at People Chamber.

So, how does the Mayor battles look for our bigger towns/cities and who might stand a bigger chance to win the biggest region with 5 seats at People Chamber? Region San Myshuno is the only 5 seats region. It contains 3 districts; Myshuno, Meadows and Prome, each with their own Mayor.

In Myshuno (north of Myshuno River) the Mayor candidates are Anaya Jang (LEFT-1), Chaos Kessler (MIDDLE-8), and Hilda Butterschön (RIGHT-16). Of these, Jang should be in with the better odds.

In Meadows (south of Myshuno River) the Mayor candidates are Miko Ojo (WORLD-7), and Nivert Hump (RIGHT-14). LEFT has no candidate in Meadows district. Neither Ojo nor Hump is very experienced, so the only thing we can predict for sure is that their Mayor will be won by WORLD or RIGHT.

Prome is the smaller district, mostly known as Mazaloom's administrative center, but also with a large population. Mayor candidates are Cato Wugger (RIGHT-5), and Otto Sufferville (LEFT-13), both with some experience from local politics.

Jang is definitely the strongest name for the regional Councilor, but we won't need to look back further than to the Year 230 election when she got the Myshuno win only thanks to a RIGHT party candidate withdrawing when the two got the same number of votes. Due to Jang's experience she was handed the win, despite not being the stronger candidate. So, perhaps her level of skill and popularity can be challenged again? If she wins Myshuno, LEFT should grab the 5 seats with ease.

In Ciudad Enamorada the Mayor candidates are Linda Orwing (MIDDLE-5), Agiles Rosa (LEFT-17), and Monica Lopéz (RIGHT-18).

In Gloomville the Mayor candidates are Gunther M. Crumpleton (MIDDLE-9), Charlotta Crumpleton (RIGHT-11), and Edith Mox (LEFT-14). Yes, once more Mr and Mrs Crumpleton will fight over the Mayor post. Mrs Crumpleton has the advantage of long political experience, though.

In Ravenwood the Mayor candidates are Shiftolph Heighwood (RIGHT-7), and Mr Jaspor Mux-Raisser (LEFT-12).

We will get back with a full list of district Mayor candidates when we get even closer to the election.

Political Program

While the election is more of a battle between individuals, the true changes on community will be seen when the winning parties execute their political programs according to their wins. These programs include both N.A.P.s and tax issues. The party winning the regional Councilor will add their regional program to all hoods of that region. The party winning the Prime Minister will add their national political program to the entire nation.

If RIGHT wins the Prime Minister, they will add N.A.P. «Tech Support» to all hoods of the nation. National extra tax of §1,000 if Adult or Elder in household. National tax relief of §1,000 if household member graduates from private high school.
