Welcome! :) On this blog you will find stories, how i play and videos created with The Sims 4, but also a few projects from older game versions can be found in the Archive. The old TS3 stories have their own blogs. Most long going stories have a main page with index of updates.

Check out Simmerville's Youtube channel!

I'm no longer on Tumblr! I refused to give all their 3rd parties unlimited access to my computer. Link still works, but no updates.

Cottage Living - Mega picture thread

You probably watched the The Sims 4 Cottage Living in game trailer launched today, but if you like me, felt there was too much info to absorb at just one look through, you might like to join me sharing a few  screenies in this post.

The info is sorted by World, Animals, Crops, Canning and Embroidery :) I actually planned 5 posts, but perhaps it will be better to get it done with right away.

The World

So, I was hoping to see the world map, which we did not, but we got to see a few more sceneries as well as more of the pre-built farms and the sims living in Henford-on-Bagley. EA also published a blog post today with info on history and some residents of the 3 hoods, Finchwick (village), Old New Henford (farmland), and The Bramblewood (forest).

These are the ruins (Lord Volpe) located on Isle of Volpe, and you can get there by crossing the River Bagley.

Also note that the second picture is having the opposite view. The trail is probably leading up to the waterfall, Cordelia Falls.

We saw the village in the previous teaser trailer, but now we got a few more views.

The picture above seems to be taken in the opposite direction compared to what we saw in the teaser video. You recognize the Crumplebottom cousins' bright green shade back there. That color must have been picked by Agatha and not Agnes, by the way...

Not much new here. We still don't know whether A. and A. Crumplebottom are NPCs or if they actually reside a playable lot.

Same for Kim Goldbloom, who serves the grocery store. Has she been featured on any farm pictures? I don't think so.

Looks like there must be two red phone booths, because Kim's grocery stand is nowhere to be seen in the picture above. I like that we can actually walk on this bridge road. Good thing we don't have cars :)

First picture I saw from the local pub! It looks so cozy! Some of the wall decor must be from this pack.

There is a lot challenge, and we already heard about the Fox one. There seem to be three alternative challenges, that we can activate for each lot in build mode. Options are: Off the grid, Simple living, Wild foxes. It says nothing about what will be achieved, or if it is simply a way to make the game more difficult.

A new lovely farm that it's very hard not to like :)

This is the granny of a household, meaning we probably get a bit of backstories with the pre-made sims. I love her jacket, btw.

And we have the new woohoo-spot!

Looks like it's hard work having granny stop by. Lots of decor in this picture, sorry for the quality, it might get bigger if clicked on.

Animals

One of the features I'm most interested in is the animals. While the previous teaser video focused a lot on the wild animals like rabbits, foxes and birds, we finally got a little more info on the cow, llama and chicken.

Befriending a cow seems like quite a task, and it will affect the quality of the milk.

I'm still hoping the pack will include one alternative design for the sheds, it would be fun if some could look a b it more modern to better match houses in other worlds.

It looks cozy milking a cow ;) To get different milk flavors, you will need to feed the cow a specific treat. I guess each treat will last only for the next milking session.

I think my farmers will focus on regular milk, but you never know...

Both cow or milk can be exhibited at the farmers market weekly contest in the village (the Finchwick Fair).

We saw the chicken coop before, but I keep studying how far out the birds can wander. Their radius is said to be generous, and this picture looks to confirm that.

You can upgrade the coop to install an alarm that will help keeping the fox away. It did not say if the fox will still try, but that your sim will be notified to scare it off the lot. Foxes are smart, they will quickly learn that the alarm itself is no danger...

Toddlers and chicken will be a winning combination, I guess :) they are so cute together. I wonder how the evil  bird will react to a toddler?

You can enter both chicken and eggs for the  village contest. The rainbow egg might be a random high quality super egg of some kind?

Talking of birds, we also get ducks...

... and swans for the ponds. These will be for decor, but are animated so they will probably add greatly to any scenery. They are nothing new to the game though, unless they can now be interacted with, like feeding them.

Finally, animals will age and die even if they are not part of the household. And Grim Reaper seems to be fond of llamas, too!

Crops

Growing food is nothing new, but it will naturally become a lot more exciting in the farming context. And useful, because you can now win contests, and you can make preserves.

We can now grow some huge species, I think mainly for winning the village contest, but I hope these crops can be used for cooking, too. It would be so great if a mum could give her  moving out daughter a friendly gift: Have this huge eggplant, it should cover your needs for at least 10 years.

This lot has a greenhouse. I love gardening in this game and can't wait to see what tools and deco objects we'll get. There ae a few new species that are not huge, also. Like the lettuce and I think some pumpkin.

We got several mushroom species with herbalism in the Outdoor Retreat pack long ago, but the mushrooms in this picture look to be new.

These plant boxes seem  t be located in the village, so perhaps there is a community garden?

You can enter both crops (probably mainly the huge ones) and pies for the village  market contest. More about new recipes below.

Canning

Another feature I'm  looking forward to is Canning. It turns out we can now preserve our harvest in order to use ut for cooking later on. This is cool as most crops will only be harvestable during a few seasons. In the past we could just keep the crops in the inventory, where they never spoiled. I guess we can still do so, but it might be more fun to actually have a pantry or storage room where you store these things as preserves :)

I love the labels and tops. Would wish for various color of the content too, but hey ho, I'll get used to strawberry jam looking like blueberry jam. The jars are still super decorative and will be the perfect gift or retail store items, too.

There are 16 versions. Keep in mind that they can only use species that are available either in base game or Cottage Living. I think 16 will be plenty anyway :)

Canning seems to come with various animations, might be fun to watch! They will simply use the stove.

It is confirmed that Canning will not be a new skill, but the activity will connect to the Cooking skill.

You can obviously eat the preserve d stuff from the jar, I assume it will be like one meal per jar. I was hoping for a way to serve say jam on slices of bread, as a group meal. But perhaps the preserve will simply count as ingredient if in the inventory, and then will lower the recipe costs.

Lots of new kitchen decor too, I think the kitchen might become a favorite room with this pack :)

I'm not sure who these new sims are. They are probably pre-made families to ship with the pack.

I think my Brindleton Bay farms will get a kitchen makeover come July 22nd :)

These are some new recipes.

Embroidery

Another interesting feature is the cross stitch embroidery. I love the Nifty Knitting pack, and one more related activity is so cool. Wool from the llama can be used for both embroidery and knitting, it will simply reduce the costs.

I'm thrilled to see those embroideries hanging on that wall! I was so much hoping for this, as a mix of wall hangings and displays on surfaces would be great in most granny homes.

All these three sims are new to me, I assume they are pre-mades, too. This one a bit more punkish than the regular farmer, I'd assume... Makes me think that magicians and even vampires might like it in Henford-on-Bagley :)

A new fact is that you can stich from reference! You don't need to use the 34+ pre-made designs for your cross stitching! I'm so excited to find out more about this, will it actually be possible to sew a portrait of old uncle Sam? Or the picture of your little farm? How cool!

Cottage Living pack will release on July 22, but already July 8th there will be a livestream. Can't wait!
