The Flock Project

(Year 235, Summer) There's been quite some fuss regarding the scientic Flock People project, since a royal palace staff member was fired for joining the project by getting pregnant, without informing her employer. Some time back another female resident at Willow Field in Gloomville gave birth to the first Flock baby. So what is next? Is this project still fully covered by science?

When the last known Humperton Flock was found dying, Landgraab Science Lab in Oasis Springs kept the body under observation. The project was kept secret until they managed to create a new Flock baby, carried out by Edith Mox, leader of the Save the Flock People organisation. The Flock People has their roots at Willow Field in Gloomville, but was scared away decades ago when the willow forest was cut down.

Scientist Mr Alexander Goth (42) has been leading the project of rescuing this old, and until know mythical, group. He states that scientifically this has been a huge challenge, but that they have found a way to bring the old man's DNA to new life. There are two babies this far, but they plan on creating duplicates of each of them, as soon as the babies get approved.

- We need to make sure that the newborns will manage, and we will need to check that their DNA was not affected too much by their mothers' DNA. Technically the DNA should be safe, and we also managed to manipulate it enough to avoid future inbreed, while still being pretty accurate to the origin.

So, there will be two babies, and possibly two more in the near future? Then what?

- This far we focused on the DNA part, this is what we want to secure. The Flock People DNA seems unique. What happens later is harder to predict. We do not know for sure how rapidly they will grow up to reproduce their natural way. Meanwhile we will look for some land where they can form rather natural lives, based on their traditional approach to nature, but whyere we can also stay in touch for future scientific observation, at least periodically. We hope to learn from observing how they will form their everyday life, while growing up.

Where will that land be?

- Well, we have not decided yet. The first two babies will stay with their mothers for a few years, so the land is not an urgent case, but for long span planning, we should have some plan next year, already. In Gloomville would be perfect, this is where they origin from, after all.

While the royal palace staff member has still not given birth, the first Flock baby is already a toddler. His mother, Edith Mox (49), is clear on what land would be perfect.

- Here at Willow Field there is a small house that is currently housing an elderly criminal! A burdon to our lovely hood! I suggest the project can buy it or rent it, delete the old build and recreate a suitable home for the Flock People! Staying next door, I can supervise them, and - well, I don't know about that palace staff woman. We just celebrated the 100th aniversary of the Flock People and I'm sure the organizatrion can assist Science in a great way if we feel the project stays local!

It's too early for any decision, but the debate will probably be of some value to the project. Politicians have not yet made their statement, and Minister Emma Golden of Science & Education was not available for a comment today.
