(Year 232, Summer) Social season is here and next weekend the high society will gather for the traditional Queen Evez Championship. This bi-annual equestrian show jumping contest takes place at Queen's Stables in Newcrest, and is strongly connected to Mazaloom's aristocracy. This is where the nobles mingle, while showing off their hats as well as jewelry. You won't only run into dukes and countesses, but even the royal family attends this great happening!

And of course: It does matter who wins the show jumping contest! Today the list of contenders was released, that is - the list itself is never meant to be of public interest, but we thought it would be fun seeing who will participate this year, as well as giving you a brief look into the rules.
The contest was arranged every other year ever since Year 202. It was initiated by HRM King Tarriot in the memory of his late mother, Queen Evez, who died four years earlier. So, this is the 15th contest and its 30 years anniversary. It was originally intended as a not-too-serious contest between the many Houses of the aristocrats (insiders), but recent years even a few regular equestrians (outsiders) were allowed to enter. The winner gets a golden trophy filled with §5,000 in cash. To some the money prize might be even more interesting than the trophy.

Traditionally Riders must be minimum 20 and maximum 50 years old. This makes the event a good place to show off your noble offspring as they get closer to be married off. Business alliances are being made, too, There is a certain required skill level in both Horse riding and Fitness, and those representing Houses are expected to wear costumes fitting the event. There can only be one contender per House, and majority of the contestants must be insiders. Those not bringing their own horse might apply to borrow one of the horses from the royal stable. There is no age restriction on horses, and this year two of them are very old!
Many of the contenders do sign up simply to support the arrangement. Each House is expected to contend over time, but no such participation won't be fined in any way. And, there are numerous ways to show support, such as providing funds for the 1st price and the donation. It's seen as a charity show, and there is also a nice donation involved to help social services run by volunteers. Each event there is a new benefiter.

The fact that our Crown Princess will participate did come as a surprise. She is currently in boarding school in Windenburg. We knew she is an active and exploring teen, but so far she was not really associated with horse riding. However, she might have sign up to help the tradition of Queen Evez' descendants joining the event, and Emireza is currently the only member of the royal House who can participate, due to the age restrictions. Her riding skills might be so-so, but maybe she is in for the fun? In two years we might see her replaced by at least one of her younger brothers.
The Crown Princess can not expect all the attention, though! She will lose to a horse! One of the horses is the very old and legendary Duke who won numerous of contests for his owner, Don Gooseman. This year Duke will team up with Don's son, Bertin Goosman (44).
The horse Dawn of Moon is among the oldest in this year's contest. |
Also the Royal Palace employees residing and running the Queen's Stable will normally participate with the horses owned by the Crown. However, this year they all are too old, allowing for two contestants to borrow those better skilled royal horses. It might sound like a great deal, but a good result will often be based on the relation between the Rider and the Horse, so borrowing someone else's horse might actually swing both ways...
Stay tuned for the fun!
