(Current Year 224) First day of Winter is "Investiture Day", the day for coronations and other investitures, and this year the region's main event was the crowning of Baron of Verde, Auphor Saxor (83). It's been busy days for him since court agreed that he is the correct successor to the Verde barony. Despite his high age he accepted, and has been busy moving from San Myshuno to Verde in Oasis Springs, where he will be the head of Yuma Heights - seat of the Barony of Verde.
The coronation took place at Church of Similius in Gloomville.
While most people don't care a lot about coronations, after all they are only involving dukes and barons - there's no royals in this area - the mentioned court trial have dragged some attention to the event. The church was more busy than on a regular baron coronation, and we spotted several nobility persons.
Such an old man walking up the floor might look weird to some, what can this man offer to his new peerage? Shouldn't rather someone with the life ahead of them get this opportunity? Well, Auphor Saxor is not just anyone. He was the Duke of Meadows for 46 years, so he obviously knows quite a bit about how these things work. It's been 12 year since he left the dukedom to his son,
Victus Amador Saxor, and people said the only thing keeping him from leaving Fashion District in San Myshuno was that he could never overcome his late wife, who made him a widower in Year 180 (44 years ago). It's good to see him finally focus on something more than his broken heart!
Taking over the Verde peerage is not happening without controversies. He is pushing away
Jarret Ross, current Duke of Rossie, who had the Verde peerage for about 50 years (including his childhood when he was not yet a formal peer, but preparing for the task). Thankfully, Jarret Ross made little fuss when being told to give up on Verde, and Auphor, being quite the generous man, suggested that Jarret Ross could be the one to crown him. Jarret is also a board member to the Verde Trust, and a life long member of the Verde District Order.
Coronations are formal events, and only the person to be crowned will be using a sash. The light yellow sash is of the Verde District Order, which Auphor is now the sovereign of. The peer's attire is meant to reflect the peerage more than himself, so for this event the crowned peer will never wear say medals or other decor representing his personal achievements or status.
Because any investiture or knighting can only be made on first day of Winter, he will wait one year until he can knight any new member to the Verde District Order. There is in fact plenty to be arranged, he also needs to get the Verde Trust going, and see how finances will be like. The house, Yuma Heights, is in need of renovations after decades of a remote peer.
The former Baron Verde's wife,
Ribra Lynn T. Ross, Duchess of Rossie and Lady of Myshuno, looked stylish as always in a simple yellow attire and a nifty hat. She wore the black Verde District Order medal, as she is a member of that order. The membership is life long, so even if her husband is no longer head of the barony, they are both members until they die. Next to Ribra Lynn is their 2nd son, Robert Ross, who is rumored to be first in line to their dukedom, as their oldest son, Rainert II Ross will become Baron of Myshuno in just 3 years.
Not all the guests were happy. Malcolm Landgraab, Lord Cacti, is the one who initiated the court trial, as he claimed to be the correct successor to the Verde barony, but he lost in all possible ways when it became clear that his late father was born outside marriage, and that Malcolm would have been dismissed from his Cacti title, if it wasn't for the fact that the case is too old. It won't make it easier that Malcolm's title is under the protection of Baron Verde...
Next to Malcolm is his stylish wife, Aili (von Kaching) Landgraab, Lady of Gloom. They have 3 small children so far. Right behind them, wearing a turquoise hat, is Natalie G. Twoller, Lady Bedrock, also a member of the Verde District Order.
Other noble faces recognized were Bud von Kaching with wife Rose, Baron and Baroness of Gloom, Corinne Dougham, Lady Crestville, and Paula Ching, Lady Mugger.
The new Baron of Verde has announced that due to the special situation regarding the changes, and that Yuma Heights has not been prepared for a gala event for some decades, there will be no Coronation gala dinner. In a soon to come article the new board members of Verde Trust will be revealed. Jarret Ross was rumored, but not yet confirmed.
