Gloomville Diaries - Gen 1 - Ch 8: Baby bonanza

Ochana was pregnant, but had yet not married Chad Pickens. Last night she walked upstairs, but did not find any source to the sounds.

She was bigger than ever, being pregnant and constantly growing. She could still work a little in the garden, but easily got exhausted, of course.

Then she saw some handsome man walking towards her.

- Over here! she called before really thinking...

It was Agaton Oaksdale from the next door Willow Farm.
- My brother told me about your visit the other day. sorry that I did't stop by earlier. Welcome to Willow Field!
- Oh, you don't... look like a farmer!

But Agaton ignored her comment and instead he spotted some of her plants.
- This one needs fertilizer, and it looks like you water them too often...

- Oh... I'm just doing what I think I should do, Ochana excused herself.
- Well, if you want stronger plants you should spend a little more time on the garden.
- Okay, I'll give it a thought. But I said you don't look like a farmer. I wouldn't expect a nice suit!

Anton seemed to suddenly realize that he wasn't supposed to discuss gardening right now.

- Oh, the suit, today is my wedding. Sonia and I just got married, and now there is a little get together with a very few guests.
- Oh, congratulations!

- We did not invite neighbours, but it would be great if you would like to stop by for dinner som time soon!

Okay, sure, that would be nice. Just need to get out something, Ochana said with a smile, tapping her huge belly. Maybe Agaton Oaksdale thought she would be fit if it wasn't for the baby.

At lunch Ochana told Chad about the sounds from upstairs.
- I wonder if there is a ghost up there, but it wouldn't be up at daylight hours, would it?

- No idea, I never knew any ghost, Chad replied. - I heard something up there too, but I thought it was birds on the roof. Could be!

Ochana gave him a spooky look. - So, it must have been the Nothing bird...

A little later they had arranged for a nursery in the old library. They didn't redecorate much, but Ochana had to check on the crib several times during a day, even before there was a baby in there.

Chad went to work as usual, although he would rather stay home to care for Ochana. He repaired a few facilities, and prepared to upgrade a few, too.

While Ochana mostly ate and slept.

The next day she felt a bit more fresh, and decided to call Aileen Gleeson. She was the elderly woman who pushed the mission on Ochana, and together they went to Flock Hideaway, nearly a year ago. They had not had any contact afterwards, and Ochana had the impression she was not supposed to make the call.

- Hello, may I talk with Aileen Gleeson? What?

There was a few seconds of silence.

- Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. Were you related? No? Okay, thanks for the information anyway.

Aileen Gleeson was dead! And just when Ochana had a few more questions regarding the Rules and Directions! Who could she ask now? Nobody else was supposed to be involved with the mission. She should have called Aileen much earlier!

Ochana found it pretty boring, spending day after day at home. So she decided to travel to the town library. Maybe she could borrow some local history books?

The library was smaller on the inside than she expected. And there was no receptionist to guide her, at least not this very hour.

She searched the shelves, and was a bit surprised when a stranger placed his hand on her bottom. A pocket thief?

She found a couple books, but not really about Gloomville. So she asked one of the library users.
- Lokal history? Anything for this region? she asked.
- Not that I know of, the woman next to Ochana said. - You should ask some member of the History Society, I think they keep some pretty old archives.

Really? So the library was only offering bestseller novels and skill building books? Ochana traveled back home.

It was much cozier to read next to the empty crib.

She still tried to read up on cooking. As soon as the baby was born, they would buy a real kitchen stove.

Chad understood that the time would soon be there, and he skipped his work to be ready to asist Ochana at home.
- Ochana, you okay?

Then the time had come! In the kitchen!

They moved over to the nursery, and Ochana gave birth to a grl, Edith!

Oh, yes, you do see double, because Ochana had twins! Edith and Miranda! And the parents were so proud!

- Miranda is too sweet, Ochana said, admiring the little bundle.
- Edith is the sweetest, Chad said.

- Sorry Ochana, he said and hugged her. - I forgot that you are the very sweetest of all the girls that belong to this house!

  1. Aww! How sweet! But still, those sounds--and now Aileen Gleeson is dead!
